Sally Robinson

Sally hails from the land down under (Melbourne, Australia) and moved to Minnesota in November 2007. Her studies began with a Bachelor of Science at the University of Melbourne and she graduated with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science from the University of Queensland in 2001. After working as a small animal veterinarian, Sally completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the University of Melbourne Veterinary Hospital and also a Master of Veterinary Science by research, investigating the role of Mycoplasma in feline ocular and respiratory disease. While completing her MVSc degree, she continued working as a registrar in the University of Melbourne Veterinary Hospital.
Sally’s husband Nick is a veterinary pathologist at the University of Minnesota. They have two daughters; Sophie (4) and Catherine (1), a dog named Sam and a black cat called Zeus. Sally’s main recreational pursuit is distance running. Her research focus is to investigate the interaction between tumors and their microenvironment. Sally joined the lab in June of 2008 as a PhD student working on the ontogeny of canine hemangiosarcoma. She is currently investigating whether the pro-inflammatory chemokine IL-8 is necessary for the growth and survival of hemangiosarcoma cells, with the longer term goal of determining the role it has in tumor-microenvironment interactions.
