Ed Zamora

Raised in a small town in New Mexico, Ed Zamora completed a B.A. in Biology from Carleton College, MN in 1997. It was there that he discovered a love of biology. From molecular biology to immunology to biochemistry, what fascinated him was the vast complexity that is biological science. Unfortunately, he then "foolishly" fell into a career in Information Technology for 10 years. Though challenges were numerous, he has since returned to his first career passion. After spending two years doing benchwork research and co-managing a lab, he is now pursuing his degree with the Microbiology, Immunology, and Cancer Biology Ph.D. Graduate Program, UMN. Having joined the Modiano Lab in June 2010, he is now working towards defining the role of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in tumor growth and immunsuppression.

Ed's personal life is filled with little ones, both furry and non-furry. Together with his wife Julie, he has a beautiful newborn daughter, Lila, who enjoys long walks on the beach and drooling. These hobbies are shared with her two furry brothers, Rocco and Wally. Ed's main form of recreation is cleaning up the little ones' hobbies, jogging and occassionally kayaking.
