Amy Jackson
Amy is originally from Princeton, MN and attended college at Northwestern
College in St. Paul, MN. She received her B.S. in biology and a minor in
Intercultural studies in May of 2007. She did two years of undergraduate
research with Dr. Lisanne Winslow on the sea anemone B. cavernata and the
physiology of the nematocyst. Amy also spent a semester in Costa Rica for
an environmental science program. She spent the entire time hiking through
the rainforest and snorkeling in the ocean. She plans to go back soon!
Amy's first love is marine biology, but she is growing more interested in
oncology as she works in the Modiano lab. She is hoping to be able to
incorporate the two in the future as she continues her education in grad
school. Currently, she is leading the project on understanding the role of
the tumor suppressor PTEN in the development of solid tumors.
Outside of the lab, Amy enjoys studying other cultures and languages. She
has spoken Spanish for over 6 years and really enjoys the Latin American
culture. She also loves dancing and music of any type. In her free time she
will be either watching movies or spending time with friends. She has no
pets at the moment, as her living situation will not allow, but she hopes
and dreams to one day have a Rottweiler, a Samoyed, and a pug!
