FundraisingThe University of minnesota animal Cancer care and research program Receives Donation for Osteosarcoma ResearchIn 2009, our lab received another donation from the Kate Koogler Cancer Fund, Inc. to continue our program in Cancer Genetics, and specifically cancers of the bones, cartilage, and joints. To date, the Kate Fund has donated >$50,000 for bone cancer research to our program and those of our collaborators! The “Kate Fund” was established to honor the memory of a ‘once in a lifetime’ friend. Kate, a motorcycle-riding, water loving Rottweiler, was the center of Robin and Teresa’s lives. When Kate died of bone cancer in September of 2002, Teresa, a veterinarian, wanted to find out why over 90% of canine bone cancer cases occur in large breed dogs. When she and Robin learned about our study ‘Genetics of Canine Cancer,’ they knew they had found the perfect recipient for their fundraiser proceeds. The fact that the research is meant to benefit both dogs and humans is especially gratifying for the Kooglers and all who have contributed to the Kate Fund. We deeply appreciate the trust that the Kooglers and their friends have placed in us as we wage the battle against cancer. For more information on the Kate Fund, please visit their web site at katefund.org. |
